‘Compassionate soul’: Friend remembers woman hit, killed by van at Grandfather Mountain

LINVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) — The household and buddies of Julie Holderness have invested the five times given that her demise mourning their loss, although also remembering the true weight of her affect on their lives.  

Holderness, 72, was strike and killed Thursday night whilst she attended the Bear Footrace in the vicinity of Grandfather Mountain in Linville.  

The party kicks off the Highland Game titles and is a 5-mile race up to the summit.  

Less than 5 minutes right before the start of the race, troopers say Dr. James Deni, 80, a professor at Appalachian Condition, experienced problems with the college shuttle he was driving.  

Troopers say he tried using to go the auto from park, but the shuttle barreled forward rather. It ran into 5 people, such as Holderness, prior to it arrived to a prevent. 

The Greensboro woman was the only man or woman who died, even though others experienced critical but non-everyday living-threatening accidents.  

Deni, who volunteered at the celebration, was billed with unsafe motion and misdemeanor dying by car.

On Monday, Julie’s son launched the following assertion:  

“She was a vivid and compassionate soul, a devoted wife, mom, grandmother, and wonderful-grandmother. She will be dearly skipped. As we mend from such a sudden and tragic reduction, please preserve us in your hearts and minds, allow your own cherished types know you appreciate them, and previously mentioned all, be sort.”

Friends of Julie have shared their memories of her on social media.  

Tim Bryson spoke to FOX8 and explained he is continue to processing the idea that she is no longer right here.  

“She was the extremely last person in my existence that I considered wouldn’t be there any longer, and that is just a shocker to me,” he reported.  

Bryson owns and operates an interior structure corporation identified as Tim Bryson Designs. 

A lot more than a 10 years ago, Julie hired him to do many projects about her home which would span over two summers.  

He reported their connection and friendship was immediate. Considering that then, the two would get lunch, sit and chat and expand jointly as friends.  

“She even tried using to get me to re-upholster her husband’s beloved chair, but I explained, ‘Oh no!’” Bryson stated.
