As a woman, I can always be confident about my personal safety while taking a taxi from a friend’s house at 3 am, or strolling along the Dubai Water Canal at 1 am. I’ve never needed to look over my shoulder while walking on a quiet street or using a public restroom at the beach late at night. I don’t need to worry about being mugged or pickpocketed – that’s just not something that commonly happens in Dubai.

As Dubai residents, we often find ourselves saying out loud that “Dubai has spoiled us.” Simply put, life in Dubai is convenient in a way it never could be elsewhere. In Dubai, you can have a bunch of coriander, or a can of soda delivered to your doorstep in under 15 minutes without talking to a person, all through an app. As an introvert, the idea of spending precious minutes speaking on the phone to someone is my personal nightmare. Luckily, we use apps for everything here, from ordering groceries, food, and manicures to booking taxis and doctor’s appointments.

If you’re the type of person who’d rather “smell the spinach leaves” before you buy them, you’ll be pleased to know that our supermarkets and fresh produce markets are stocked with beautiful, clean, and high-quality fruits and vegetables from around the world. Regardless of the season, I can buy and enjoy mangoes, dragonfruit, and squashes in Dubai whenever I want.

In Dubai, the detailed urban planning and top-notch infrastructure ensures a high quality of life. Dubai is spotless – a cityscape that is clean, manicured and beautified with water features, and most importantly, constantly maintained to a high level of perfection.

The city also boasts a superb transportation system, featuring the metro, tram, buses, boats, taxis, and cycling routes, so getting around is easy. For shorter commutes, e-bikes and scooters (available through bike-share apps like Careem) have become increasingly popular. Carsharing apps and car rentals make it easy to drive around Dubai if you don’t want to buy a car, while taxis can be ordered to your doorstep through Careem.

Just drive for an hour to get to Abu Dhabi, where you’ll find protected nature reserves, natural islands, and a glorious desert, or 90-minutes to the UAE’s east coast where mountains, forts, and fishing towns await.

• Desert Safaris: Explore the majestic Arabian desert with nature drives, camel riding, or sandboarding. Some adventure companies offer overnight camping experiences, or you can enjoy a traditional Bedouin-style meal under the stars and then return to Dubai.
