Woman Wounded in West Hollywood; Suspect Believed Barricaded in Building
1 min readA woman was shot and wounded Friday by an apparently stray bullet in the West Hollywood area, and a possible suspect was believed to be barricaded in an apartment complex, prompting some evacuations and street closures.
The shooting was reported about 8:15 a.m. in the 7000 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, between Highland and La Brea avenues, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
A woman suffered a leg wound was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, according to the fire department. A sheriff’s official told KNX News the woman was struck by a bullet that apparently traveled through a wall inside the apartment complex and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
A containment area was established in the 7100 block of Santa Monica, according to the sheriff’s department. The suspect was believed barricaded in the apartment building and Santa Monica and La Brea, and SWAT team personnel were sent by helicopter, which landed on La Brea just north of Santa Monica, according to reports from the scene.
Santa Monica and La Brea were both fully closed in the area, creating extensive traffic headaches in the area.
