Interstate 10 will experience a closure starting Friday

Interstate 10 in Beaumont will be see a significant closure this weekend as the state demolishes part of a nearby overpass.

Starting 8 p.m. Friday and lasting until at least 4 a.m. Monday, I-10 westbound at Washington Boulevard will be closed and traffic will be diverted to the frontage road. Additionally, I-10 eastbound at Washington will be down to one lane on Saturday, according to a traffic update from the Texas Department of Transportation.

Westbound traffic will be forced to exit at Washington, remain on the service road and reenter I-10 at the Hillebrandt Bayou entrance ramp. The entrance ramp in front of Cowboy Harley-Davidson will be closed.

Traffic heading eastbound will be reduced to one lane from the Hillebrandt Bayou overpass to the Hollywood Overpass, and the entrance ramp in front of Mike Smith Nissan will remain open, according to a news release from Beaumont Police Sgt. Bobby Anderson.

According to the release, the project will cause continuous traffic congestion and delays along several major thoroughfares including I-10, College Street and Washington, as well as many side streets, this weekend.
